The RG-RAP1200(P) is a wall-mounted Wi-Fi 5 access point that mounts on a junction box and combines wireless cover with five gigabit Ethernet ports. It has 2x2 MU-MIMO under 802.11ac Wave2, with up to 866 Mbps on 5 GHz and 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz.

What the RG-RAP1200(P) is for

Ruijie position the RG-RAP1200(P) as a dual-radio, gigabit wall-mounted access point with multi-service support: their page shows an IP phone, IPTV and a laptop as examples of wired services on the full gigabit ports. It suits rooms where one cable from the switch has to provide both Wi-Fi and wired connections, and it mounts on a junction box.

PoE passthrough lets the access point pass power on to a wired device, and the budget depends on what feeds it: 4 W when the source is IEEE 802.3af, 15.4 W when the source is IEEE 802.3at. The access point's own consumption, up to 8 W, is on top of that. In practice, check the draw of the device you want to power before counting on an 802.3af feed.

Ruijie say a Wi-Fi network can be built through the Ruijie Reyee App using self-organising network (SON) technology, and list Reyee Mesh, one-click Wi-Fi optimisation (WIO) and cloud management covering centralised network management, cloud portal authentication and remote monitoring and maintenance. Limits to note: a hardware maximum of 110 associated clients (64 on 2.4 GHz, 110 on 5 GHz), an IP41 rating and an operating range of 0°C to 40°C.

What you will need

The RG-RAP1200(P) has no local power input, so it must be fed from a PoE switch or a PoE injector. It draws up to 8 W itself, so a standard 802.3af port will run it, but the passthrough budget is then only 4 W; for the full 15.4 W, feed it from an 802.3at (PoE+) port. You also need a junction box to mount it on and a network cable run back to the switch. Ruijie's box contents list two mounting screws, a quick start guide and a warranty card; no power adapter or injector is listed.

What is the difference between the RG-RAP1200(P) and the RG-RAP1201?

The RG-RAP1200(P) has five gigabit ports and PoE passthrough in an 86 mm x 50 mm x 126 mm body, while the RG-RAP1201 has two gigabit ports and no PoE output in an 86 mm x 42.4 mm x 86 mm body. Both are Wi-Fi 5 with up to 866 Mbps on 5 GHz and 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz.
