The TP-Link Omada ER707-M2 is a multi-gigabit VPN gateway with one 2.5G RJ45 WAN port, one 2.5G RJ45 WAN/LAN port, one gigabit SFP WAN/LAN port, four gigabit RJ45 WAN/LAN ports and a USB 2.0 port. TP-Link quote 500,000 concurrent sessions, IPsec VPN throughput of 650.2 Mbps (ESP-SHA256-AES256) and WireGuard throughput of 343 Mbps. It has a dual-core ARMv8 CPU, a steel case and a 12 V adapter, with a rackmount kit included.

What the ER707-M2 is for

It is the gateway for a business network with a broadband line faster than 1 Gbps or several lines to combine: the 2.5G ports take a multi-gig ONT or modem, and several ports can run as WAN for load balancing and failover, with a USB LTE dongle as backup. It is a step up from the ER7206 for faster lines and heavier VPN use.

It has no Wi-Fi, so pair it with Omada access points and network switches. Adopted into an Omada controller, the router, switches and APs are managed from one dashboard, including SD-WAN between sites.

As a TP-Link Omada router the ER707-M2 can be managed centrally from an Omada Hardware, Software or Cloud-Based Controller and the Omada App, or standalone through its own web interface.

What you will need

Your broadband modem or ONT (a 2.5G port on it to use the full speed), network cable or an SFP module for a fibre WAN, and a switch for the LAN side. For Wi-Fi add Omada access points; for central management an Omada controller such as the OC200.

How many WAN ports does the ER707-M2 have?

It has a dedicated 2.5G WAN port, and the 2.5G RJ45, gigabit SFP and four gigabit RJ45 ports can each be set as WAN or LAN. The USB 2.0 port takes an LTE dongle for backup.

What VPN throughput does the ER707-M2 give?

TP-Link quote IPsec 650.2 Mbps (ESP-SHA256-AES256), WireGuard 343 Mbps, SSL VPN 132.24 Mbps and L2TP Unencrypted: 1243.7 Mbps, Encrypted: 561.0 Mbps.

Is the ER707-M2 Omada SDN compatible?

Yes. It works standalone through its web interface, or can be adopted by an Omada software controller, hardware controller or Omada Cloud and managed with your Omada switches and access points. TP-Link list SD-WAN as controller mode only.

ER707-M2 or ER7206?

The ER7206 is all gigabit. The ER707-M2 adds two 2.5G ports, so it suits broadband lines faster than 1 Gbps.

Can the ER707-M2 be rack mounted?

Yes. TP-Link list desktop/wall mount/rackmount mounting, and a rackmount kit is in the box.

How quickly can I get it?

We ship nationally from our multi-million pound warehouse, with orders leaving daily. Orders placed before 2:30pm are normally dispatched for delivery within 1–2 working days to England, Scotland and Wales.
