What you will need
You need network cable for each device (Cat5e or above for gigabit links) and a mains socket for the switch. Total PoE draw of all connected devices must stay within the 250 W budget. SFP modules for fibre uplinks are sold separately. The Easy Smart Configuration Utility runs on Microsoft Windows; the web interface works from any browser.
Buying from Zenith Security Co.
We are a supplier, not an installer. We will go through the TL-SG1218MPE with you before you buy (the number of ports you need, the port speed against your devices and the PoE budget against your cameras or access points) and depending on your requirements and your area we can recommend a qualified trade installer. We have been operating since 2012 and you can visit our trade counter in Wolverhampton.
What is the PoE budget of the TL-SG1218MPE?
TP-Link list a 250 W PoE budget shared across 16 PoE ports. Add up the draw of each device from its datasheet; PTZ and heated cameras draw more than fixed cameras.
Which PoE standard does the TL-SG1218MPE support?
The PoE ports are 802.3af/at compliant, so they power standard PoE (15.4 W) and PoE+ (30 W) devices. They will not power 24 V passive PoE devices.
What does Easy Smart mean on the TL-SG1218MPE?
It is plug and play like an unmanaged switch, but TP-Link add a web-based interface and the Easy Smart Configuration Utility (for Microsoft Windows) so you can set VLANs, QoS, IGMP snooping, link aggregation and port mirroring.
How many VLANs does the TL-SG1218MPE support?
TP-Link list up to 32 VLANs at the same time, out of 4K VLAN IDs, with MTU, port-based and 802.1Q tag VLAN.
What is the difference between the TL-SG1218MPE and the TL-SG1218MP?
The TL-SG1218MP is unmanaged plug and play, with no web interface. The TL-SG1218MPE is Easy Smart, adding VLANs, 802.1p/DSCP QoS, IGMP snooping v1/v2/v3, static link aggregation, port mirroring and cable diagnostics.
How fast are the ports on the TL-SG1218MPE?
All 18 RJ45 ports are 10/100/1000 Mbps, and there are 2 gigabit SFP combo slots for fibre uplinks (modules sold separately).
Can the TL-SG1218MPE be rack mounted?
Yes. TP-Link include a rackmount kit in the box for a 19-inch cabinet.
