TP-Link Omada vs Ubiquiti UniFi

TP-Link Omada vs Ubiquiti UniFi: which business network platform should you choose?

Omada and UniFi do the same job. Switches, access points and gateways are adopted into one controller and managed from a single dashboard, in the browser or on a phone app. Both are good platforms. This guide covers where they differ, so you can choose the one that suits your site. Zenith Security Co is an official TP-Link VAR Partner, so we sell Omada and know it well. We have tried to be fair to both.

Where Omada stands out

  • Choice of controller. You can run Omada with no hardware controller at all, use the free software, buy an OC200, or use a Fusion gateway that is both router and controller. Omada Cloud Essentials is a free tier of cloud management.
  • Lifetime warranty and UK support. TP-Link covers business-class Omada products with a limited lifetime warranty, and replacements ship from UK warehouses.
  • Wider gateway range. Omada includes gateways with 4G/5G failover and SoGEA/DSL, which suit UK shops, pubs and offices with backup internet.
  • Enterprise switching. Omada L3 switches add stacking, dynamic routing and VRRP for larger sites.
  • Built for installers and MSPs. Zero-touch provisioning, MSP mode, site templates and OpenAPI help when you manage many customer sites.
  • Price. Omada is usually priced below comparable UniFi kit. See current prices on our Omada pages.

Where UniFi stands out

  • Polished software with a large user community.
  • One ecosystem for cameras, door access and VoIP (UniFi Protect, Access and Talk) on the same console.
  • Strong brand recognition with IT-literate customers.

Wi-Fi 7 access points: Omada models to consider

TP-Link positions these Omada Wi-Fi 7 access points against UniFi's U7 range:

  • EAP772: BE9300 tri-band ceiling AP including 6 GHz, with a 2.5G uplink. TP-Link compares it with the U7 Pro.
  • EAP727: BE5000 dual-band ceiling AP.
  • EAP775-Wall and EAP725-Wall: wall-plate APs for hotel rooms and classrooms.
  • EAP772-Outdoor and EAP725-Outdoor: outdoor Wi-Fi 7.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose Omada if you want a lifetime warranty, UK support, a lower cost per site, 4G/DSL gateways, or MSP-style management of many customer sites.
  • Choose UniFi if you are already invested in UniFi Protect or Access, or your customer specifically asks for it.

Omada vs UniFi FAQs

Is TP-Link Omada as good as UniFi?

For most small and medium business sites, yes. Both offer centralised SDN management, Wi-Fi 7 and multi-gig switching. The bigger differences are warranty, support, price and the range of gateways and switches.

Can I mix Omada and UniFi devices?

They will pass traffic together over standard networking, but each controller only manages its own brand. For one dashboard, stick to one platform.

Can I switch from UniFi to Omada?

Yes. Cabling, PoE and IP cameras carry over. You would replace the access points, switches and gateway, then rebuild your SSIDs and VLANs in the Omada controller.

Does Omada need a subscription?

No. The software controller is free, the Fusion gateways include licence-free cloud management, and Omada Cloud Essentials is a free tier. Paid Cloud Standard licences add more features.
