The RG-AirMetro460G is the gigabit-port CPE (customer premises equipment) in Ruijie's RG-AirMetro wireless bridge series. It combines a 5 GHz 2 x 2 MIMO radio rated at up to 867 Mbps with a 23 dBi antenna, and Ruijie rate it for up to 15 km in point-to-point mode.

What the RG-AirMetro460G is for

Ruijie position the AirMetro series for wireless ISP (WISP) and CCTV scenarios, and the 460G is the CPE with the faster wired port. It supports point-to-point and point-to-multipoint working modes; Ruijie state that after pairing the bridges support up to 15 km of wireless transmission and up to 32 point-to-multipoint links. For CCTV that means a group of IP cameras on a remote building can be carried back to the NVR without a cable run.

The 5 GHz 2 x 2 MIMO radio is rated at up to 867 Mbps, and the single 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet port means the wired side is not capped at 100 Mbps as it is on the RG-AirMetro460F. Ruijie's speed figures are laboratory values, so leave headroom when you add up the traffic the link must carry. The specification gives the 23 dBi antenna a 9° angle horizontally and vertically, so plan for a clear line of sight and careful alignment. It also lists a 2.4 GHz 1 x 1 radio.

Ruijie build it for harsh environments, with an IP65 rating, 6 kV surge protection, ±24 kV ESD protection, wind survivability of 220.32 km/h (137 mph) and operation from –40°C to +70°C. For management Ruijie list all-in-one cloud management and an easy site survey tool, and the specification shows SON, an AI heatmap, a bridge speed test, restarting the device through the Ruijie Reyee App and SNMP v1, v2c and v3.

What you will need

The RG-AirMetro460G is sold as a single unit, and a wireless link needs a device at each end. You need an AirMetro device at the far end as well; in a point-to-multipoint layout that is an AirMetro base station. Tell us the layout and we will check what goes where. It runs on 24 V passive PoE through its one PoE input. A standard 802.3af/at PoE switch port will not power it, so a 24 V passive PoE injector is needed, and because Ruijie's page does not list the box contents you should ask us whether one is supplied. You will also want outdoor-grade network cable and a mounting position with a clear line of sight.

Will a PoE switch power the RG-AirMetro460G?

Why choose the RG-AirMetro460G over the RG-AirMetro460F?

The 460G has a 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet port where the 460F has a 10/100 Mbps port, so the wired side does not hold traffic to 100 Mbps. Ruijie give both the same 15 km, 23 dBi and 867 Mbps figures.

Does the RG-AirMetro460G support SNMP?

Yes. The specification lists SNMP v1, v2c and v3, along with SON, an AI heatmap, a bridge speed test and restarting the device through the Ruijie Reyee App.

What antenna angle does the RG-AirMetro460G have?

The specification gives the 23 dBi antenna a 9° angle both horizontally and vertically. An angle that narrow needs a clear line of sight and careful alignment with the far end.
