What the RG-AirMetro550G-B is for

Ruijie position the AirMetro series for WISP and CCTV scenarios, meaning wide-area coverage without fibre connections or several camera locations reporting back to one point. The base station sits at that central point and the CPEs at the remote sites pair to it, with a maximum of 32 point-to-multipoint links (1:32). Ruijie quote one-touch pairing in 30 seconds.

The 5 GHz dual-stream 802.11ac radio is rated at up to 867 Mbps and Ruijie list TDMA, so add up the traffic from every site you plan to connect and compare it with that figure. Ruijie list three antennas with rated distances: the RG-ANT13-360 omnidirectional antenna to 2 km, the RG-ANT16S-120 120° sector antenna to 5 km and the RG-ANT20S-90 90° sector antenna to 10 km, so the 10 km figure matches the 90° sector antenna.

It is made for outdoor mounting, with an IP55 weatherproof rating, 6 kV surge protection, 24 kV contact/air ESD protection, wind survivability of 220.32 km/h (137 mph) and an operating range of –40°C to +80°C. Two gigabit Ethernet ports serve the wired side. For management Ruijie list all-in-one cloud management, an alignment tool, spectrum scan with one-click channel interference scanning and an AI heatmap, and the specification shows SON, a bridge speed test, restarting the device through the Ruijie Reyee App and SNMP v1, v2c and v3.

What you will need

The base station is one part of a system. Ruijie list three antennas for the series, so you also need to choose one for your coverage, and an AirMetro CPE at each remote site, such as the RG-AirMetro460G or RG-AirMetro460F. Power is 24 V passive PoE through the single PoE input, or a 12 V DC input that Ruijie suggest for solar supplies. 24 V passive PoE is not 802.3af/at, so a standard PoE switch port will not power it and a 24 V passive injector is needed. Ruijie's page does not list the box contents, so ask us what is supplied with the unit.
