The Ruijie Reyee RG-RAP73Pro is a tri-radio Wi-Fi 7 access point that Ruijie aim at spaces with many users, such as large open offices. It adds a 6 GHz radio rated at 8646 Mbps to its 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz radios, and has a 10GE SFP+ port as well as 2.5GbE copper for the wired link.

What the RG-RAP73Pro is for

Ruijie position the RG-RAP73Pro for places where many devices share the air: their examples are large open offices, where they cite more capacity and less interference, and manufacturing floors with wirelessly controlled AGV trolleys. They also name AR/VR, 8K streaming, video conferencing and enterprise IoT as applications. The hardware maximum is 600 associated wireless clients with all three bands enabled (128 on 2.4 GHz, 256 on 5 GHz and 256 on 6 GHz).

The three radios provide up to 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (2x2), 4323 Mbps on 5 GHz (3x3) and 8646 Mbps on 6 GHz (3x3), eight spatial streams in all. Only client devices that support 6 GHz can use that band, and MLO needs Wi-Fi 7 clients. Ruijie quote roaming latency below 60 ms and Wi-Fi 7 terminal speeds above 2000 Mbps, both from laboratory tests. If you do not need 6 GHz, the dual-band RG-RAP72Pro is the alternative.

With this much radio capacity the wired link matters: the 10GE SFP+ port allows a 10 Gbps uplink, where the 10/100/1000/2500BASE-T copper port tops out at 2.5 Gbps. Ruijie state that deployment and management are simplified by Ruijie Cloud. It is an indoor unit, rated IP41 for 0°C to 40°C, for ceiling or wall mounting.

What you will need

Maximum consumption is 30 W and Ruijie list PoE+/PoE++ or a 54 V DC adapter as the power options, so a standard 802.3af port (up to 15.4 W) will not run it. Use a PoE+ (802.3at) or PoE++ (802.3bt) port on a PoE switch or a matching PoE injector. PoE cannot travel over an SFP+ link, so with an SFP+ uplink the unit still needs PoE on its 2.5GbE port or the DC adapter. An SFP+ link needs a 10G SFP+ module or DAC cable and a network switch with a 10G SFP+ port; tell us the switch model and we will check. Ruijie's page does not list box contents.

What power does the RG-RAP73Pro need?

Ruijie list PoE+/PoE++ or a DC adapter (54 V, 0.55 A connector), with a maximum consumption of 30 W. A standard 802.3af PoE port supplies up to 15.4 W, which is not enough. If both PoE and the DC adapter are connected, the DC adapter is used in preference.

Do I have to use the SFP+ port on the RG-RAP73Pro?

No. There is also a 10/100/1000/2500BASE-T copper port for data, and PoE power has to arrive on that port because PoE is not carried over an SFP+ link. The 10GE SFP+ port is for a 10 Gbps link and needs a 10G SFP+ module or DAC cable; a 1G SFP module will not run at 10G.

Which bands does the RG-RAP73Pro use?

Three: 2.4 GHz at up to 688 Mbps, 5 GHz at up to 4323 Mbps and 6 GHz at up to 8646 Mbps, 13657 Mbps combined. Devices need 6 GHz support of their own to connect on that band.

How many clients can the RG-RAP73Pro support?

The hardware maximum is 600 associated wireless clients with all three bands enabled, made up of 128 on 2.4 GHz, 256 on 5 GHz and 256 on 6 GHz. That is an upper limit; usable capacity depends on the traffic.

How is the RG-RAP73Pro managed?

Ruijie state that deployment and management are simplified by Ruijie Cloud. Their page gives no further management detail for this model, so ask us if you need to know how it fits an existing network.
