NVR H2DAC (8-ch) is the 8 channel recorder in Ajax's H2D series, built for sites that need a deeper archive and a backup copy of their footage. It takes two hot-swappable SATA III drives of up to 16 TB each, so a drive can be changed while the recorder keeps running and recording. You choose how the drives work together: redundancy mode writes the same footage to both, and split mode shares the streams across them to balance the load and use the space. Ajax lists recording at up to 12MP, and a 4K HDMI output with three USB ports turns it into a monitoring station at the desk using the built-in video management system, while the same cameras, archive and settings are available remotely in the Ajax apps. Linked to an Ajax alarm, an event from a detector brings the matching camera to the front of the video wall so it can be checked at once. Choose black or white above.

Ajax BulletCam, TurretCam, DomeCam Mini and IndoorCam cameras, and other IP cameras that support ONVIF or RTSP. Alarm-linked video needs an Ajax hub with Ajax detectors. Add one or two SATA surveillance hard drives of up to 16 TB each, and a 4K or HD monitor if you want local viewing.

Common questions

Does it come with hard drives?

No. It has two SATA III bays, each taking a 2.5 or 3.5 inch drive of up to 16 TB.

What does hot-swappable mean?

A drive can be taken out and replaced while the recorder is running, so changing a drive does not stop recording.

What is the difference between redundancy and split mode?

Redundancy mode records the same footage to both drives, so you keep a full copy if one fails. Split mode records in equal segments across the two drives, which gives more total storage and balances the load.

How do the H2D models differ?

NVR H2DAC has no PoE ports. NVR H2D8PAC adds 8 PoE ports and NVR H2D16PAC adds 16, each with up to 25 W per port and a 160 W total budget. The PoE models use up to 280 W from the mains against up to 60 W for the H2DAC.

Can I use cameras from other brands?

Yes. It records IP cameras that follow ONVIF profiles or stream over RTSP, and Ajax lists it as conformant with ONVIF Profile G and Profile S.

Where can I fit it?

Indoors, on a desk or in a rack with the brackets supplied. Ajax rates it IP20, for 0 °C to +50 °C and humidity up to 75%. It measures 330 × 330 × 44 mm and weighs 2.8 kg.
