How to choose a Tapo camera
1. Indoor or outdoor
Indoor cameras are not weatherproof, so use an outdoor model for anything outside the house, including porches and garages open to the weather. The C246D is listed for indoor or outdoor use, as is the battery C410.
2. Fixed or pan/tilt
A fixed camera watches one view, such as a door or hallway. A pan/tilt camera can turn to look around a room or garden from the app, and the AI models can follow movement where the product page lists it. Dual-lens models show two views at once: the Tapo C245D and the C246D, which is listed for indoor or outdoor use.
3. Resolution
1080p is fine for a room or a front door at short range. 2K and 3K give clearer faces and more detail when you zoom. 4K (C260, C560WS and C660 KIT) suits wide gardens and driveways where you want to zoom in on recordings.
4. Power
Mains-powered cameras record all the time if you want them to. Battery cameras need charging and suit places where running a cable is hard. Solar kits top up the battery from a panel, so you charge them far less often, given enough daylight on the panel. The C325WB can also take PoE over one network cable.
5. Recording
Many Tapo cameras record to a microSD card in the camera (up to 512 GB on the product pages). The Tapo app also offers cloud plans from TP-Link. Check the product page for each camera's storage options.
6. Wi-Fi at the camera
Check the Wi-Fi signal where the camera will go, especially outside. A weak signal causes dropped live view. A Wi-Fi extender or mesh system can help.

Which Tapo camera should I buy for indoors?
For one view, the Tapo C100 or C110 is simple. To cover a whole room, choose a pan/tilt model: the C200 (1080p), C220 (2K) or C230 (3K). The C260 is the 4K pan/tilt option.
Which Tapo cameras work without mains power?
The C410 and the C420S2 system run on battery, and the C425 KIT, TC80 KIT, TC50 KIT and C660 KIT come with solar panels. The TD20 doorbell is battery powered.
Do Tapo cameras need a subscription?
Not to view live video. Many Tapo cameras record to a microSD card; TP-Link also sells optional cloud plans in the Tapo app. Check each product page for storage options.
