At a glance: build a complete Ajax CCTV system online. Choose Ajax cameras, and the builder matches an Ajax NVR, a surveillance hard drive, a PoE switch if needed, and network cables and patch leads, with live prices and stock. Everything works in the Ajax app, so your Ajax camera system and Ajax alarm sit side by side.

How the Ajax CCTV system builder works

  1. Count your cameras. Front, back, driveway, side gates: one camera per area to cover.
  2. Choose your Ajax cameras. Mix BulletCam, TurretCam and DomeCam Mini, 4MP to 8MP, in black or white.
  3. Get a matched NVR. The builder picks an Ajax NVR with enough channels and recording resolution for every camera, and shows how many it can power over PoE.
  4. Add power, storage and cables. A PoE switch if the NVR can't power them all, a hard drive sized to the days you want to keep, a 20 m cable per camera and short patch leads.
  5. Add it to your basket in one click, or send us the list to check first.

What is in an Ajax CCTV system?

  • Cameras: wired Ajax IP cameras with AI detection of people, pets and vehicles, powered over the network cable (PoE).
  • NVR: the Ajax network video recorder stores the footage and connects the system to the Ajax apps.
  • Hard drive: not included with Ajax NVRs. The builder adds a WD Purple or similar surveillance drive.
  • PoE switch: only needed when the NVR has no PoE ports, or not enough of them.
  • Cables: one network cable per camera, and patch leads from the NVR to your router and from any switch to the NVR.

Which Ajax cameras should I choose?

  • TurretCam: a turret that's quick to aim on a wall or soffit. 5MP or 8MP, with 2.8 mm or 4 mm lenses.
  • BulletCam: a bullet shape that's easy to see, often used on driveways and gates.
  • DomeCam Mini: a small dome for porches, shops and indoor ceilings.
  • HL models: hybrid lighting, with white light for colour pictures at night as well as infrared. The HLVF models add a motorised varifocal lens.

Ajax CCTV with an Ajax alarm

If you already have an Ajax alarm, the cameras and NVR join the same Ajax apps. Live view, recordings and alarm events sit in one place, and a scenario can make chosen cameras record when an Ajax detector is triggered, so the clip goes straight to the app and to a monitoring company. See our Ajax wireless alarms.

How much hard drive storage do I need?

Storage depends on the number of cameras, their resolution, the days you keep and whether you record all the time or only on movement. The builder works this out for your exact cameras and recommends a drive. For your own figures, use our free CCTV storage calculator.

Ajax CCTV system questions

What is an Ajax CCTV system?

Ajax IP cameras recording to an Ajax NVR, set up and watched in the Ajax apps. If you have an Ajax alarm, the cameras sit in the same app, and a detector going off can start recording on chosen cameras.

Do Ajax cameras work with my Ajax alarm?

Yes. Ajax cameras and NVRs are added to the same Ajax apps as the intruder alarm, so live view, recordings and alarm events are in one place. A scenario in the app can make chosen cameras record when an Ajax detector is triggered.

Which Ajax NVR do I need?

Count your cameras and leave a few spare channels. NVR (8-ch) and NVR (16-ch) take one drive and record up to 8MP. The H2 models (H2DAC, H2D8PAC, H2D16PAC) have two drive bays and record up to 12MP, and the PAC models power 8 or 16 cameras over PoE. The builder picks the NVR for your cameras.

Do I need a PoE switch?

Only if the NVR can't power all the cameras. The H2D8PAC and H2D16PAC NVRs have 8 or 16 PoE ports. Other Ajax NVRs have none, so the builder adds a Ruijie Reyee PoE switch and a patch lead to link it to the NVR.

How big a hard drive do I need?

It depends on the number of cameras, their resolution, how many days you keep and whether you record all the time. As a rough guide, 8 cameras at 5MP recording on movement for 14 days need about 2 TB. The builder works it out for your kit.

Can Ajax cameras record without an NVR?

Yes. The wired Ajax cameras have a microSD slot, but an NVR keeps far more footage and lets you play it back on a monitor. The builder always includes an NVR.

Are the prices and stock live?

Yes. Prices and stock are read from our website each time the page loads, and anything out of stock is hidden.
