Wireless fire detection for homes, rented property and commercial buildings.

Ajax makes two fire ranges for two different jobs. The Residence Line FireProtect 2 alarms are for homes and landlords: smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms with their own sounders, which can also join an Ajax hub. The EN54 Line is a wireless fire alarm system for commercial premises, built around EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller with addressable detectors, sounders, visual alarm devices (VADs) and call points.

Which Ajax fire range do I need?

What standards do FireProtect 2 alarms meet?

  • Smoke, CO and heat: Ajax lists the smoke models to BS EN 14604, the CO models to EN 50291-1, and the mains (AC) and sealed battery (SB) heat models to BS 5446-2. BSI Kitemark licences are listed on the AC and SB versions, so check each listing for its exact marks.
  • BS 5839-6 grades: Ajax lists Grade D1 for the AC mains versions and Grade F1 for the SB sealed battery versions. The RB versions take replaceable batteries.
  • Long-life CO sensing: Ajax rates the CO sensor at 10 years on the RB and SB versions.

Do they need a hub?

  • On their own: each alarm has a built-in 85 dB sounder, so it warns the people nearby by itself.
  • On an Ajax hub: the alarms interconnect, so a fire found in one room sets off the alarms in the others, and alerts reach the Ajax app.
  • Heat sensing: the heat models react both to a high fixed temperature and to a fast rise.

What is in the EN54 Line?

  • EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller: touch-screen control and indicating equipment for up to 200 devices, with Ethernet, Wi-Fi and two SIM cards. Optional EN54 internal batteries give 24 or 72 hours of backup. Ajax lists EN 54-2, -4, -13, -21 and -25.
  • Devices: EN54 FireProtect detectors (smoke, heat or both, with or without a sounder), sounders and VADs, EN54 Fire ReX Jeweller, EN54 I/O Module (2X2) Jeweller, EN54 Indicator Jeweller and ManualCallPoint (Red) Jeweller, which carries EN 54-11 and EN 54-25. The detectors run for up to 5 or 6 years on 2 × CR123A batteries, depending on the model.
  • Coloured call points: the blue and green ManualCallPoint versions carry no EN 54 marks, so use them for other alerts such as a panic or gas leak.

In the UK, a commercial fire alarm is normally designed and commissioned to BS 5839-1 by a competent installer.
