The Dahua DHI-NVR5216-8P-EI is a 16 channel NVR, also called a network video recorder, with 8 PoE ports, from Dahua's WizSense range. It is a CCTV recorder for IP cameras up to 32MP, with 4K HDMI output. Dahua lists on-recorder AI for 2-channel face detection and recognition, 4-channel perimeter protection and 8-channel SMD Plus, with N+M cluster and iSCSI support.

Common questions
How many cameras can the DHI-NVR5216-8P-EI record?
It has 16 audio and video access channels, so it records up to 16 IP cameras. Dahua lists support for cameras up to 32MP.
Can I connect 16 cameras if there are only 8 PoE ports?
The recorder has 16 channels but 8 PoE ports (ports 1-8, which support ePoE), so 8 PoE cameras connect straight to it. The other channels need cameras connected over the network, for example through a PoE switch.
What does WizSense mean?
WizSense is Dahua's AI range. Dahua says it uses an independent AI chip and deep learning algorithms and focuses on human and vehicle detection. Read our WizSense guide for more.
What AI does the recorder run itself?
By recorder: 2-channel face detection and recognition, 4-channel perimeter protection and 8-channel SMD Plus. Video metadata, AcuPick, ANPR, people counting, heat map and PPE detection are done by the camera, so they need compatible cameras.
