Common questions

What does HDCVI mean?

HDCVI is Dahua's HD video over coaxial cable technology. Dahua's datasheet says it supports up to 700 m for 5MP video over coax and up to 300 m over UTP cable, verified in Dahua's test laboratory. Our guide to Dahua HDCVI cameras explains it in more detail.

Which recorder do I need?

An HDCVI-compatible recorder. For 5MP 16:9 video Dahua says the XVR firmware must be V4.001.0000001.0.R.200908 or later. The camera output also switches between CVI, TVI, AHD and CVBS, which Dahua says suits most existing HD and SD DVRs. Our guide to Dahua Penta-brid recorders covers recorders that take several camera formats.

How far does the night vision reach?

Up to 60 m with four IR LEDs. Smart IR adjusts the LED intensity so objects that come closer to the camera are not overexposed.

What does Starlight mean on this camera?

Dahua lists it as a 5MP Starlight HDCVI camera, with 0.005 lux minimum illumination at F1.6 and 0 lux with IR on. See our guide to Dahua Starlight low-light cameras.

Can the lens be adjusted?

The lens is a motorised vari-focal 2.7 mm-12 mm, so the field of view can be adjusted without changing the lens: 107° horizontal at 2.7 mm and 34° at 12 mm. The DORI table above gives the detect, observe, recognise and identify distances.

Does it have a microphone?

Yes. The -A in the model code means one channel of built-in microphone.

Is it waterproof?

It has IP67 protection against water and dust, a metal casing, a working temperature of -30°C to +60°C and a 4 kV lightning rating. That makes it an outdoor CCTV camera for HDCVI systems.
