The Dahua DHI-ASR2201A-D is a slim, waterproof ID card reader for access control with a touch keypad. As a contactless card reader, it reads ID cards at 125kHz and unlocks by card or password, then sends the information to an access controller for verification over RS-485 or Wiegand 34. It is a reader, not a controller, and works as part of an access control system. Dahua lists it for industrial zones, office buildings, schools, factories, stadiums, residential areas and government properties.

Common questions

Does the DHI-ASR2201A-D work on its own?

No. It is an access control card reader that sends card or password information to an access controller for verification. It connects by RS-485 or Wiegand.

Which cards does it read?

Contactless ID cards at 125kHz, with a card reading distance of 0 cm to 5 cm and a 0.1 s response time. Check your existing cards are 125kHz before ordering. For Mifare 13.56MHz cards, see the Dahua DHI-ASR2201A.

Does it have a keypad?

Yes. Dahua lists a touch keypad for operation, so it supports card swiping and password unlock. It works as a door access keypad as well as an ID card reader, because the password you enter is sent to the access controller for verification.

Can I fit it outside?

It is IP66 rated for indoor and outdoor use, with an operating range of -30°C to +70°C and 5%RH to 95% non-condensing. Dahua notes that silicon sealant is needed, see the manual.

Which Wiegand format does it use?

Wiegand 34, with Wiegand 26 configurable. It also has 1 RS-485 channel.

Does it have tamper protection?

Yes. It has an anti-tampering alarm, and a built-in watchdog that detects abnormal operation and performs recovery.
