What the N610 IP PRO is for

Use it when a small business wants cordless VoIP handsets on a SIP-based phone system, rather than fixed desk phones. You register compatible Gigaset cordless phones from the PRO range (DECT handsets) to it. One base station gives one DECT cell, which Gigaset rates at up to 50 m indoors and up to 300 m outdoors. It handles up to 8 simultaneous calls, and on software release 2.62.1 or later it can register up to 20 DECT handsets.

Each handset can have its own SIP account, or you can assign several accounts to one handset, so that calls to a shared business number ring on several handsets or one handset takes calls from several lines. In the internal telephony role, handsets on the base station can also call and transfer calls to each other. Gigaset states the N610 IP PRO is compatible with Microsoft Teams, with Teams calling used on connected Gigaset Professional handsets and the base station set up by auto-provisioning.

What you will need

The N610 IP PRO is a base station only, so you need three things alongside it. First, DECT handsets from the Gigaset PRO range: Gigaset's datasheet lists the S700H PRO, R700H PRO, R700H protect PRO, SL800H PRO and SL850H PRO, and Gigaset's public wiki holds its full handset and platform compatibility list. Second, a SIP phone system, cloud PBX or VoIP provider that the base station can reach over your network; check yours against Gigaset's compatibility list. Third, power: either a PoE switch (IEEE 802.3af) such as those in our data networking range, or the supplied power adapter. The base station is configured through its web configurator in a web browser, from a computer on the same network.

Handset and call limits depend on the software release and settings. Gigaset raised the handset limit from 8 to 20 in release 2.62.1, so if a unit has an earlier release, update it before registering more than 8 handsets. Wideband G.722 calls reduce the number of simultaneous calls, as shown in the specification.

If you need more DECT coverage, check the repeater conditions first. Gigaset's repeater page says repeater operation needs software 2.53 or later and is switched on with a provisioning file. The repeater connection is unencrypted (DECT encryption is disabled), wideband must stay switched off, and the extended DECT range carries 2 narrowband calls. Gigaset also says a mini multicell system gives more reliability, stability and parallel calls than a repeater solution, so call us before you plan coverage for a larger site.

Is the Gigaset N610 IP PRO a phone, and are handsets included?

No. The N610 IP PRO is a base station. It comes with a power adapter, a security leaflet and wall-mounting screws, but no handsets. You register compatible Gigaset DECT handsets to it and connect it to your SIP phone system or VoIP provider over your network.

How many handsets and calls does the N610 IP PRO support, and can I add repeaters?

Up to 8 calls at the same time (G.711 or G.729), or up to 5 when wideband G.722 is used. On Gigaset software release 2.62.1 or later you can register up to 20 handsets and up to 20 SIP accounts; with internal telephony enabled the limit is 20 handsets and 8 SIP accounts. Earlier releases supported 8 handsets. Up to 6 repeaters can extend the DECT range, but repeater operation runs without DECT encryption, needs wideband switched off and limits the call count (see the specification). Does the N610 IP PRO work with Microsoft Teams?

Gigaset states that it is compatible with Microsoft Teams: Teams calling can be used on connected Gigaset Professional handsets, and the base station is configured by auto-provisioning. Gigaset publishes a list of approved solutions for Teams, so check your handsets and set-up against it, or ring us.
