The Gigaset S700H PRO is a professional cordless DECT handset in anthracite, with a 2.4 inch illuminated colour display, Bluetooth 4.2, a 3.5 mm headset connector and a programmable alarm key. It is a DECT phone handset, not a complete system: it registers to a compatible DECT base station, such as a Gigaset IP DECT base station connected to your phone system, and then works as a cordless VoIP phone. It is supplied with its charging cradle and power supply unit, two rechargeable AAA NiMH batteries, a belt clip and a user guide. The base station is not included.

What the S700H PRO is for

Use it as an extra cordless handset, or as the handset for a new Gigaset DECT system, where staff need a Gigaset cordless phone that copes with a working day. Gigaset describes it as an all-rounder for use behind single-cell and multicell systems. It has a harder surface coating that Gigaset says resists scratches and commercially available disinfectants, IP40 protection with a housing designed to keep metal dust out, and a battery rated at up to 13 hours of talk time and up to 320 hours of standby.

Business functions include a hotel option that deletes call lists and other private data at a pre-defined interval, a separately programmable alarm key, audio profiles selected with a separate key, side keys for volume during a call and a PIN-protected key lock. For Alarm, Messaging and Location (AML) systems it can act as a user device: a short or long press of the alarm key triggers two different alarms, text messages are received and sorted by priority and status, and Bluetooth beacon scanning supports location. Gigaset also states that, when the handset is connected to certain Gigaset base stations, you can make and receive Microsoft Teams calls on it (see What you will need below).

What you will need

The S700H PRO is a handset only, so it needs a DECT base station to register to. Gigaset says it is optimised for use with all of its professional DECT systems and can also be used on CAT-iq and GAP compatible base stations from third-party vendors. Its datasheet recommends it for the Gigaset N670 IP PRO and N510 IP PRO single-cell systems and the N870 IP PRO and N720 IP PRO multicell systems. Gigaset's wiki lists full compatibility with N510 (software 257 or higher), N720 (116 or higher), N530 (2.62.0 or higher), N610 (2.61.0 or higher), N670 (2.36.0 or higher), N770 (2.62.0 or higher) and N870 (2.36.0 or higher) base stations, so check the software release on the base station you plan to use.

For Microsoft Teams calls Gigaset states the prerequisite is that the S700H PRO is connected to one of its newer single-cell or multicell systems (N610 IP PRO, N670 IP PRO, N870 IP PRO or N870E IP PRO). Several functions, including directory access, autoprovisioning and AML, depend on the base station, PBX or provider, and Gigaset notes that not every function in its user guide is available in all countries or from all network providers.

The batteries in the box are rechargeable AAA NiMH cells. Gigaset's user guide says to use only rechargeable batteries that match its specification, and never ordinary non-rechargeable cells. The belt clip supplied is the standard clip; Gigaset lists a 360° swivel belt clip (order number S30852-Z2974-R142) as a separate accessory.

In the box you get the handset, a battery cover, two AAA NiMH batteries, a belt clip, a charging cradle with its power supply unit, a rubber cover for the headset socket and a user guide. There is no base station, so you need a compatible DECT base station to register it to.
