The HP Poly VVX 250 (manufacturer part number 89B62AA, also known as the Polycom VVX 250) is a four-line SIP IP desk phone, a business VoIP phone for office and home-office users. It combines a 2.8-inch colour display with Poly HD Voice, a full-duplex speakerphone and two gigabit Ethernet ports, and it is designed to be powered by an IEEE 802.3af PoE network switch. What the VVX 250 is for

HP describes the VVX 250 as a four-line, basic IP desk phone with a colour display. As a business phone it gives you four programmable line keys, hold, transfer, divert, local 3-way conferencing and busy lamp field for everyday office phone work. Poly Acoustic Fence is designed to cut the background noise the other caller hears, and Poly's data sheet mentions home offices, open offices and call centres as places where that helps. Because the phone has a second gigabit port, a PC can connect through the phone and share one network cable. The calling features are delivered through your SIP phone system, so what you see on the keys depends on your PBX or provider.

What you will need

To use the VVX 250 you need a SIP-based phone system, IP PBX or hosted VoIP service that supports it, and a network connection. Power comes from an IEEE 802.3af (Class 2) PoE switch, or from Poly's optional 5 V DC, 3 A external power adapter, which is not in the box. A CAT-5E network cable and the handset cord are included. Headsets and the optional Poly Wi-Fi USB accessory are sold separately. As Poly's data sheet notes, most software-enabled features must be supported by the server, so check the feature list with your phone system vendor or provider.

Does the HP Poly VVX 250 come with a power supply?

Poly's box contents list covers the phone, handset with cord, desk stand / wall-mount bracket, CAT-5E network cable and setup sheet, with no power adapter. The phone is designed to be powered by an 802.3af (Class 2) PoE switch. Poly lists an external 5 V DC, 3 A adapter as an optional extra. If you are not sure whether your switch supplies PoE, call us before you order.

Which headsets can I connect to the VVX 250?

The phone has a dedicated RJ9 headset port and a USB 2.0 port, and Poly lists electronic hook switch (EHS) capability and headset options for USB, RJ9 and EHS. Check the headset's own specification for compatibility, or call us and we will go through it with you.

Will the VVX 250 work with my phone system?

It is a SIP phone, so it needs a SIP-based IP PBX, hosted VoIP service or softswitch, and Poly notes that most features must be supported by that server. Tell us which system or provider you use and we will help you check before you buy.

How quickly can I get it?

Orders placed before 2:30pm are normally dispatched for delivery within 1–2 working days to England, Scotland and Wales. You can also collect in store from our trade counter - call first so we can confirm your order is ready. We do not ship to Northern Ireland.
