The Mitel 6920w is a full-featured Mitel IP phone and VoIP desk phone from Mitel's 6900 series, with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It is the Wi-Fi model in the Mitel 6920 range, which Mitel describes as physically identical to the 6920 but with embedded Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2 and energy-efficient Ethernet. The phone has a 3.5-inch colour display, a wideband handset and full-duplex speakerphone, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and dual-band Wi-Fi, so it can connect to your wireless network instead of using an Ethernet cable.

What the 6920w is for

The 6920w suits office and home workers who want a business desk phone with a proper handset and plenty of programmable keys. As a business VoIP phone it is a SIP phone for use with a compatible voice platform, and as a Wi-Fi phone it can join your wireless network. Mitel lists the 6920w SIP phone in its Open SIP range, for use with Open SIP-compatible voice platforms. Bluetooth drives two Mitel features. PCLink lets the phone act as the audio device for video calls in applications such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom on a Windows or Mac computer, and MobileLink pairs a mobile phone so contacts and call history sync to the desk phone and mobile calls can be answered or moved across. The USB 2.0 host port takes a USB headset, and Mitel says it also keeps mobile devices charged. It sits in our range of IP desk phones, alongside other Mitel products.

What you will need

The 6920w needs a voice platform or provider that supports it. Mitel lists the 6920w SIP phone in its Open SIP range for Open SIP-compatible voice platforms, and its 6920 and 6920w SIP user guide names MiVoice 5000, MX-ONE and MiVoice Office 400 as compatible Mitel call managers. Mitel's installation guide notes that 6900 series phones are supplied with MiNet firmware pre-installed and that SIP deployments use the SIP firmware release, so check which firmware your system needs. The phone is set up on your platform, and Wi-Fi has to be enabled by your system administrator before the phone can join a wireless network.

For power, use a PoE switch or injector that supplies IEEE 802.3af or 802.3at, or a Mitel-approved 48V power adapter, which is sold separately. As a PoE IP phone it can take its power through the LAN port. Mitel says the LAN and PC ports are disabled while the phone is connected by Wi-Fi, so if you plan to run it on Wi-Fi, call us to check how you will power it. With M695 modules attached Mitel lists PoE Class 4, and an accessory in the sidecar port needs the 48V adapter. Mitel advises Category 5/5e cabling as a minimum, with Category 6 for optimum Gigabit performance.

PCLink needs a Windows or Mac computer with Bluetooth running a supported video application, and the Mobile/PC Line key has to be programmed by your administrator. MobileLink needs a Bluetooth-paired mobile phone. Headsets, expansion modules and the wall mount kit are bought separately.

Will the Mitel 6920w 50009435 work with my phone system?

Mitel lists the 6920w SIP phone in its Open SIP range, for use with any Open SIP-compatible voice platform, and its documents also name MiVoice 5000, MX-ONE and MiVoice Office 400 as compatible Mitel call managers. Does it come with a power adapter?

No. Mitel's installation guide lists the AC power adapter as sold separately. You can power the phone from a PoE (802.3af/802.3at) switch or injector, or use a Mitel-approved 48V adapter.

Does the 6920w have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth?

Yes. It has built-in dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2. Bluetooth is used for PCLink (PC audio for video calls), MobileLink (mobile phone pairing) and Bluetooth headsets. Wi-Fi has to be enabled by your system administrator, and Mitel says the LAN and PC ports are disabled while the phone is connected by Wi-Fi.
