The Gigaset N870 IP PRO is an IP DECT base station for building a multicell DECT phone system: it connects Gigaset PRO DECT handsets to a SIP phone system or VoIP provider, and the same hardware can be set to work as a base station, DECT manager or integrator. A system supports up to 60 base stations, 250 handsets and 60 simultaneous calls, and the unit is powered by PoE (IEEE 802.3af, class 1). Check before ordering: it is the base station only (no handsets and no power adapter), and it is the N870 with internal antennas, not the N870E with external antennas.
The Gigaset N870 IP PRO is an IP DECT base station for business cordless telephony and the building block of Gigaset's multicell system. It connects to your network by Ethernet and speaks SIP to your IP PBX, cloud phone system or VoIP provider, and Gigaset PRO DECT handsets register to it over DECT, which together make a cordless VoIP phone system. It is the multicell model in the PRO range: it is delivered set as a base station, and the same hardware can be set to work as a DECT manager or an integrator, so a small site can run on one N870 IP PRO while a larger site can grow to dozens of them with roaming and handover between cells.
It is supplied as the base station on its own, with a security leaflet and screws and wall plugs for mounting. Handsets are not included, and neither is a power adapter: Gigaset powers the N870 IP PRO by Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af, class 1) and lists a power supply as an optional extra for networks without PoE. This listing is part number S30852-H2716-R101, the standard N870 IP PRO with internal antennas.
Choose a multicell system when one DECT cell is not enough: a large office, several floors, a warehouse, a hotel or a campus, where people need to keep their calls as they walk between areas. Each N870 IP PRO set as a base station forms a DECT cell. A handset that is idle can roam to a new cell, and a call can be handed over from one cell to the next when the cells are synchronised (Gigaset supports synchronisation over DECT, over LAN or mixed).
Gigaset describes three sizes. A small system runs from one N870 IP PRO set as an all-in-one device (integrator, DECT manager and base station) plus up to nine further base stations, with up to 50 handsets and 20 simultaneous calls. In a medium system one device acts as integrator and DECT manager (without acting as a base station), and the system has up to 60 base stations, 250 handsets and 60 simultaneous calls. Large installations, up to 6,000 base stations and 20,000 handsets, use Gigaset's virtual integrator and need licences. Gigaset states that the N870 IP PRO supports both on-premise and cloud-based VoIP phone systems, and that it can be connected to alarm and messaging servers through an open MQTT interface (Gigaset AML: alarm, messaging and location).

The N870 IP PRO is DECT infrastructure, so you need four things alongside it. First, DECT handsets from the Gigaset PRO range: Gigaset's datasheet lists the S700H PRO, R700H PRO, R700H protect PRO, SL800H PRO and SL850H PRO, and says all recent Gigaset professional handsets are compatible with the N870 system; Gigaset's public wiki holds the full handset list. Second, a SIP phone system, cloud PBX or VoIP provider that the base stations can reach over your network; Gigaset's wiki lists compatible platforms and providers, so check yours against it. Third, network and power: an Ethernet connection to the same network as your other DECT devices (the DECT manager and base stations must share one Ethernet or virtual LAN), and either a PoE switch (IEEE 802.3af), such as those in our data networking range, or Gigaset's optional power supply. Fourth, a computer on that network to run the web configurator.
Plan the coverage before you buy. Gigaset gives a DECT range of up to 50 m indoors and up to 300 m outdoors, and its manual says planning has to take the capacity of the phone system, the wireless coverage and the surroundings into account. Gigaset offers a DECT Site Planning Kit (SPK) PRO for measuring coverage and signal quality when you decide where base stations go. If you need external antennas, Gigaset makes a separate N870E IP PRO, which can be used together with N870 IP PRO units in the same DECT network.
Licences are separate. Gigaset says large installations need licences, and each handset that receives messages from an alarm server or sends location data needs its own Messaging or Location licence. None of these is included with this base station, so call us to talk through what your set-up needs.
We are a UK supplier, not an installer, and we have been operating since 2012. We will go through the N870 IP PRO with you before you buy, including handsets, your phone system or provider and how the base stations will be powered. Our trade counter is in Wolverhampton. See more from the Gigaset range and our DECT and wireless IP phones.
No. It is an IP DECT base station. You register compatible Gigaset DECT handsets to it and connect it to your SIP phone system or VoIP provider over your network. The box holds the N870 IP PRO, a security leaflet and screws and wall plugs; handsets and a power supply are not included, and you power it from a PoE switch or Gigaset's optional power supply.
Gigaset gives up to 60 base stations, 250 handsets and 60 simultaneous calls for a medium system, and up to 10 base stations, 50 handsets and 20 simultaneous calls for a small one, where a single device acts as integrator, DECT manager and base station. Each base station handles up to 10 simultaneous calls on G.711, fewer on G.729 (8) or wideband G.722 (5). Large installations of up to 6,000 base stations and 20,000 handsets need Gigaset's virtual integrator and licences. Call us if your plan depends on these numbers.
Gigaset states that the N870 IP PRO is compatible with Microsoft Teams: Teams calling can be used on connected Gigaset Professional handsets, and the DECT system is configured by auto-provisioning. Gigaset publishes a list of approved solutions for Microsoft Teams, so check your handsets and set-up against it, or ring us.
