Dahua CVI

CVI — in full, HDCVI (High Definition Composite Video Interface) — is Dahua’s technology for sending HD and 4K video over standard coaxial cable. It carries video, audio and camera control down the one coax run, and PoC (Power over Coax) models power the camera through the same cable, so a single existing cable can do everything. For anyone with an older analogue system, that is the point of CVI: the picture upgrades to HD or 4K without rewiring the building.

Current HDCVI generations include Starlight low-light sensors, full-colour models and Smart Dual Light cameras that switch between infrared and white light. On the recording side, today’s Penta-brid XVRs accept CVI alongside older analogue, AHD, TVI and IP — so a CVI system can grow into a mixed or fully IP one later.
