Hikvision NVR 5.0 is the latest generation of Hikvision's network video recorder platform, launched in July 2024, with a redesigned live view, one-click AcuSearch playback, a central event centre, and support for alarms, access control and other AIoT devices. It follows NVR 3.0 and 4.0. Hikvision describes it as a move from a traditional recorder to an "AIoT NVR". Here's what changed and how it makes everyday use easier.
Channel status is clearer at a glance, you can build custom views for different viewpoints, and multi-screen layouts can switch automatically on a timer. That's useful for a reception or control desk.
A one-stop event centre lists alarms with pop-ups, event lists, screen views and captured images, so an operator can see what happened and act straight away.
NVR 5.0 can connect directly to a wider range of devices, linking audio and video for instant response, and supporting alarm, access control and other AIoT devices for central management. Hikvision also lists built-in applications for single-lane entry and exit management, time and attendance, people counting and time-lapse.
One important point: AcuSearch needs AcuSense cameras with the function enabled. An AI recorder paired with older or third-party cameras won't have the information it needs to search by target.
In 2025 Hikvision went a step further with AcuSeek NVRs, which let you search by typing a description such as "white van" or "person in a red top". Read our AcuSeek guide.
Popular current Hikvision AcuSense NVRs we stock include the DS-7604NXI-K1/4P(D) 4-channel PoE, DS-7608NXI-K1/8P(D) 8-channel PoE, DS-7616NXI-K2/16P(D) 16-channel PoE and DS-7732NXI-K4(D) 32-channel 4-bay. The interface and features depend on model and firmware, so check the product page, and see our Hikvision NVR buying guide before you choose.
Remember drives are sold separately: size them with our storage calculator and choose surveillance-rated hard drives. Keeping firmware up to date also brings interface improvements; see our firmware guide.
Recorders have changed more in the last few years than in the decade before. NVR 5.0's biggest win is playback: AcuSearch and Smart Search turn "find the clip" from a chore into a few clicks. If your recorder is several years old, the time saved on every incident is a good reason to upgrade.
