Hikvision Turbo HD 8.0: Two-Way Audio, 180° Cameras and Smart Hybrid Light Over Coax

Hikvision Turbo HD 8.0, launched in September 2024, is the latest generation of Hikvision's HD analogue (coax) CCTV, adding two-way audio cameras, a compact 180° dual-lens camera, Smart Hybrid Light across the whole range, and a new PowerX DVR with AcuSense. If your building already has coax cable to each camera position, Turbo HD is often the cheapest route to modern CCTV. Here's what's new and who it's for.

What is Turbo HD?

Turbo HD is Hikvision's name for HD-TVI analogue CCTV: cameras that send high-definition video over coaxial cable to a DVR. It's the natural upgrade for older analogue systems, because you can usually reuse the existing cable and just swap the cameras and recorder.

The four Turbo HD 8.0 upgrades

1. Two-way audio cameras

Turbo HD cameras can now talk and listen, so you can speak to a visitor at a gate or warn someone off from your phone. Hikvision lists noise reduction that isolates voices, a 2W speaker, about 3 metres of voice pickup at the camera and 5 metres at the remote end.

2. Compact 180° dual-lens camera

A new camera with two lenses stitches the images into one seamless 180° view, in colour day and night thanks to an F1.0 aperture and sensitive sensors. It's smaller and more discreet than before, which suits shops and small businesses.

3. Smart Hybrid Light across the range

Every Turbo HD 8.0 camera can now use Smart Hybrid Light: it stays in discreet infrared, then switches to white light and colour when a person or vehicle appears. ColorVu versions add an F1.0 lens, Super Confocal focusing and a BSI sensor for even better night images.

4. PowerX DVR with AcuSense

The new PowerX DVR supports more AI channels and improved perimeter protection, combining face recognition, Motion Detection 2.0 and perimeter protection in one recorder. Hikvision said AcuSearch one-click target search would follow via an update.

Why choose Turbo HD over IP?

  • Reuse existing coax. No rewiring, which saves a lot of time and disruption.
  • Lower cost per camera for many small systems.
  • AI in the recorder. AcuSense DVRs bring people and vehicle detection to analogue cameras.
  • Power over coax (PoC) on compatible models, so one cable carries power and video.

IP still wins for very high resolutions, advanced on-camera AI and large systems. Our Hikvision DVR buying guide explains the choices.

Our take

Analogue CCTV isn't going away. For many shops, pubs, farms and homes with existing coax, it's still the most cost-effective upgrade. Turbo HD 8.0 closes much of the gap with IP: two-way audio, colour night vision with smart lighting, and AI in the recorder.
