Dahua WizColor Explained: From Full-color to WizColor 2.0 Night Vision

WizColor is Dahua's colour night-vision technology. It combines a large-aperture lens, a large-pixel sensor and AI image processing (AI-ISP) so cameras record in colour at night, with less noise and motion blur than earlier "full-colour" cameras. WizColor 2.0, launched in April 2025, adds an F0.8 lens and a 4μm-pixel sensor. Here's how Dahua got from Full-color to WizColor 2.0, what the technology does and which cameras use it.

From infrared to full colour

Traditional CCTV switches to black-and-white infrared after dark. That works, but you lose the details that matter as evidence: the colour of a jacket, a car or a van. Dahua's Full-color cameras (from 2020) used larger apertures and sensitive sensors to stay in colour with only a little ambient light. Full-color 2.0 in 2021 added 4K and zoom models.

The next step was Smart Dual Light (2022). These cameras run in infrared until AI spots a person or vehicle, then switch on a warm light and record in colour, which means less light pollution for neighbours. Read our Smart Dual Light guide for the detail.

WizColor (2024)

Dahua launched WizColor in September 2024 as a step beyond simply adding a bigger lens. The three ingredients are:

  • An F1.0 large-aperture lens, which Dahua says lets in 2.5 times more light than F1.6.
  • A large-pixel sensor that gathers more light per pixel.
  • AI-ISP, AI image processing trained on a very large set of scenes. It cleans up noise pixel by pixel, removes artefacts such as insects and dust reflections, corrects lens distortion and keeps number plates readable.

Dahua's own figures for WizColor include up to 80% less motion blur and 50% better detail restoration than its previous generation.

WizColor 2.0 and WizColor X (April 2025)

  • UltraSight F0.8 lens: Dahua says this takes in 1.6 times more light than F1.0.
  • 4μm pixel sensor, with 1.9 times the light-gathering area of the previous generation.
  • AI-ISP 2.0, with reference-frame segmentation and motion direction estimation to reduce ghosting on moving people and vehicles.
  • On the TiOC PRO series: Optical Path Correction for sharper focus across the image and a dual-microphone VoiceCatcher array for clearer audio.

At the same time Dahua extended WizColor to 4K, pan-tilt, vari-focal, HDCVI (over coax) and 4G battery cameras.

Where colour night vision helps

  • Car parks and driveways: vehicle colour and number plates at night.
  • Yards, farms and fish ponds: Dahua's own examples, where lighting is poor.
  • Shop fronts and entrances: clothing colour for identification.
  • Factories and courtyards with only street lighting.

TiOC PRO cameras also include active deterrence (a siren and red and blue lights). See our TiOC guide and Starlight low-light guide, or browse all Dahua products.

Our take

Colour at night has gone from a novelty to an expectation, and WizColor shows where the gains now come from: AI processing as much as glass. The practical benefit is evidence. A colour image of a vehicle or a jacket is far more useful to police and insurers than a grey silhouette.

Quick questions

What is Dahua WizColor?
Dahua's colour night-vision technology, combining a large-aperture lens, large-pixel sensor and AI image processing.

What's new in WizColor 2.0?
An F0.8 UltraSight lens, a 4μm pixel sensor and AI-ISP 2.0 with less ghosting on moving targets.

Does WizColor need a white light?
It's designed to produce colour with very little light. Some models also include a warm light or smart dual light for completely dark scenes.

Is WizColor available on HDCVI cameras?
Yes. Dahua offers WizColor on HDCVI models for coax systems, as well as on IP cameras.
