HDCVI X Plus, launched by Dahua in June 2025, brings five technologies to its over-coax CCTV range: WizColor night colour, PT MultiVision pan-tilt cameras, two-way talk, Enhanced Encoding and AcuPick AI search on the XVR recorder. It's the latest step in a run of HDCVI upgrades going back to Real 5MP in 2021. If you run analogue-style coax CCTV, or want to upgrade without re-cabling, here's what has changed and why it matters.
HDCVI is Dahua's high-definition over-coax technology. It sends audio, video, data and power down a single coax cable, and Dahua quotes runs of up to 1,200m. That makes it a cost-effective way to upgrade an old analogue system to HD or 4K using existing cabling. Dahua's Penta-brid XVR recorders accept HDCVI, other analogue HD formats and IP cameras. Our HDCVI guide and Penta-brid recorder guide explain the basics.

Coax CCTV isn't standing still. HDCVI X Plus puts features usually associated with IP systems, such as AI search, colour night vision and two-way audio, onto cable that's already in the wall. For many upgrades that makes HDCVI the quicker, cheaper route, with IP cameras added on the same Penta-brid XVR where needed.

What is HDCVI X Plus?
Dahua's 2025 HDCVI generation, adding WizColor, PT MultiVision, two-way talk, Enhanced Encoding and AcuPick search.
Can I reuse my old coax cable?
Usually, yes. That's the main advantage of HDCVI. Check the cable's condition and run lengths first.
What is AcuPick?
Dahua's AI search. You pick a person or vehicle and the recorder finds matching footage, instead of you scrolling through hours of video.
Can an XVR record IP cameras too?
Penta-brid XVRs accept HDCVI, other analogue HD formats and a number of IP cameras. Check the channel limits on each model.
