TP-Link Omada Wi-Fi Access Point Buying Guide

TP-Link Omada EAP access points come as ceiling, wall-plate and outdoor models, in Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7. Choose the mounting style for the room, the Wi-Fi generation for the devices you need to serve, and an Omada controller to manage them together. Zenith Security Co is listed on TP-Link UK's where-to-buy page as a VAR Partner and Online Store, and every access point below is on our site.

Omada access points are powered over the network cable (PoE), so plan them alongside an Omada PoE switch.

How to choose an Omada access point

Wi-Fi 6, 6E or 7?

Wi-Fi 6 suits most offices, shops and hospitality sites today. Wi-Fi 6E adds the 6 GHz band, which has more room where neighbouring networks crowd 2.4 and 5 GHz. Wi-Fi 7 also uses 6 GHz on the tri-band models and is the choice for new installs that need more capacity. A phone or laptop only uses Wi-Fi 6E or 7 features if it supports them.

Ceiling, wall-plate or outdoor?

Ceiling access points give the widest even coverage in open spaces. Wall-plate models suit rooms that also need wired ports. Outdoor models are sealed against weather (check the IP rating) and suit yards, car parks, beer gardens and campsites. Directional models such as the EAP650 D30-Outdoor aim coverage down a long space.

Number of users

For busy spaces such as halls and lecture rooms, look at the high-density HD models, rated for 1,020 or more clients on the product page.

Uplink and power

Match the access point's uplink to the switch. A 2.5G or 10G access point on a gigabit port works, but is limited to gigabit. Check whether the model needs PoE+ and that the switch's PoE budget covers every access point.

Controller

Omada access points can be managed together by a hardware controller (OC200, OC300 or OC400), a Fusion gateway, or Omada's cloud service. The OC200 suits a small site; the OC300 and OC400 suit larger or multi-site estates.

Linking buildings

To link a second building without a cable, use an Omada wireless bridge such as the EAP215-Bridge KIT (up to 5 km) or the Beam Bridge 5 UR KIT (up to 15 km).

Frequently asked questions

Which Omada access point should I buy for an office?

For most offices a Wi-Fi 6 ceiling access point such as the EAP610 or EAP653 is a sound choice. For new installs that need more capacity, the Wi-Fi 7 EAP723 or EAP772 have 2.5G ports.

Do Omada access points need a controller?

A controller lets you manage several access points together, with one Wi-Fi setup and seamless roaming between them. Use an OC200, OC300, OC400, a Fusion gateway or Omada's cloud service.

How many devices does the OC200 manage?

TP-Link recommends the OC200 for managing 25 Omada devices. For larger sites, the OC300 manages up to 500 access points and the OC400 up to 1,000.

What is the difference between Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7?

Both can use the 6 GHz band. Wi-Fi 7 is the newer standard and adds features such as Multi-Link Operation. Client devices must support the standard to benefit.

Which Omada access points are for outdoor use?

The EAP225-Outdoor, EAP603-Outdoor, EAP610-Outdoor, EAP625-Outdoor HD, EAP650-Outdoor, EAP650 D30-Outdoor, EAP725-Outdoor and EAP772-Outdoor. Each product page gives its IP rating.

Are Omada access points powered by PoE?

Yes, they are designed to run from PoE. Check each product page for the PoE standard it needs, and make sure the switch has enough PoE budget.
